The Canadian Dental Care Plan in West Kelowna (CDCP) is a government program designed to help Canadians who don’t have dental insurance and earn less than $90,000 a year. It aims to make dental care more inexpensive for those who need it most.

Canadian Dental Care Plan for Seniors

What You Need to Know About the CDCP Dental Benefit?

Starting in May 2024, the CDCP (Canada Dental Care Plan) will be available. However, one thing to note is that CDCP is not free dental care. It is a government dental plan managed by Health Canada. Here’s how the co-payment works:

  • Covering the difference: If your family’s annual net income is under $70,000, you’ll only need to pay the difference between what the CDCP covers and the rates in the dental fee guide.
  • 40% co-payment: If your income is between $70,000 and $79,999, you’ll pay 40% of your dental care costs.
  • 60% co-payment: For families earning between $80,000 and $89,999, you’ll cover 60% of the oral (dental) costs.

The CDCP makes it easier for families to afford dental care based on their income.

It’s important to note that the CDCP doesn’t cover all dental services, so there may be additional costs for treatments not included in the program. Be sure to check with your dental provider to get an estimate before starting any treatment.

FAQs

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is available to help certain groups of Canadians. Right now, you can apply if you meet one of the following:

  • Seniors aged 65 and over
  • Children under 18 years old
  • Adults who have a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate for 2023

To qualify for the plan, you must also meet these four conditions:

  1. You don’t have access to dental insurance.
  2. Your family’s adjusted net income is under $90,000.
  3. You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
  4. You’ve filed your tax return for the previous year.

If you meet all these requirements, you can apply for the CDCP.

The CDCP covers a variety of essential oral services, including:

  • Preventive Care:
  • Sedation Options:
    • Conscious sedation (for mild anxiety)
    • Moderate or deep sedation (requires approval)
  • Basic Treatments:
    • Fillings (temporary or permanent)
    • Root canals
    • Gum disease treatments
  • Major Services:
    • Crowns and repairs (require approval)
    • Dentures (new, replacements, or repairs)
    • Tooth extractions
    • Oral surgeries (such as cysts, jaw fractures and more)

The CDCP ensures that eligible individuals have access to necessary dental care, but it’s important to confirm which services are covered before starting treatment.

Applying for the CDCP is simple! Here’s how you can do it:

  • Submit your application through Health Canada.
  • Once your application is accepted, you should expect to receive a welcome package within three months. It will contain your benefits details, the beginning date, and your membership card.

Make sure to check everything carefully to avoid delays!

That’s it! The process is easy, and soon you’ll have access to the dental care you need.

To find a dentist who accepts CDCP, here’s what you can do:

  • Use the Provider Search Tool on the official website to search by name, specialty, and location.
  • Call any dental clinic in your community and ask if they accept CDCP patients.
  • Call Sun Life’s CDCP Contact Centre at 1-888-888-8110 for assistance finding a provider.

Feel free to contact us directly if you’re unsure, and we’ll guide you through the process of using your government dental insurance!
